Bighorn Petroglyph Pendant

$115.00

Handmade sterling silver pendant on 20” black waxed cotton 1.5mm cord with a sterling silver clasp. This pendant was formed in clay before being cast in solid silver.

Bighorn sheep petroglyphs are a frequent sight in the canyons of the Colorado Plateau and in some cases they can be used to help guide you through the complex terrain. The native Puebloan people followed bighorn sheep routes in and out of steep-walled canyons, learning from the creatures that had called this place home for millenia. Finding a bighorn carved into the rock often means you’ve found a way out of the canyons and onto the mesas high above.

Sand casting is an ancient technique where I create a mold using slightly damp sand and then pour molten silver into the mold. I take scraps of recycled sterling silver and melt them down to create each pendant. It is delightful alchemy.
