This snake was first crafted in clay, and then cast into silver. Pendant hangs on a 18 inch oxidized silver chain.
Serpents represent fertility or the creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.
Sand casting is an ancient technique where I create a mold using slightly damp sand and then pour molten silver into the mold. I take scraps of recycled sterling silver and melt them down to create each pendant. It is delightful alchemy. Each piece is unique as the mold can only be used once!
